Rodri makes Barcelona debut as Champions League draw looms

Rodri's Barcelona debut followed a win over Athletic Bilbao as the Champions League draw drew mixed reviews across Europe.

Rodri’s first appearance in Barcelona colours has become a central talking point after the club moved to the top of the domestic standings. His arrival on the pitch also adds interest to a European campaign that will bring Barcelona against several major opponents, including Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City.

Barcelona defeated Athletic Bilbao 2-0, with Rodri introduced for the final 30 minutes. It was his first outing at Camp Nou in the Blaugrana shirt, and he received a warm reception from the home supporters. The coach described the defensive midfielder as an ideal fit for Barcelona’s style of play. The result also allowed the Catalan side to answer Real Madrid’s 4-1 victory over Real Sociedad and remain leaders.

The Champions League draw has produced contrasting reactions across the press. Spanish coverage has called Barcelona’s route difficult, while other assessments described it as balanced. The Catalans will face PSG, Manchester City, Aston Villa, Sporting CP, Feyenoord, Galatasaray, Como and Sabah in the league phase, with the meeting against PSG already carrying a revenge narrative.

The French clubs also face demanding schedules. PSG drew Barcelona and Manchester City, Lille will meet Bayern Munich and Arsenal, while Lens were paired with Manchester City and Liverpool. The opening round is due to begin in about ten days.
