Senegal professional league start pushed back to 17 October

The Senegalese professional championship will begin later than planned after the Senegalese Football Federation (FSF) moved the opening date to 17 October 2026. The postponement gives clubs and players more time to manage international commitments during the same period.

The season had been scheduled to start on 3 October, but the FSF emergency committee approved a two-week delay on 29 September. The decision affects the league calendar and requires the Senegalese Professional Football League, clubs and other stakeholders to adjust their preparations.

Several Senegal teams are due to play internationally around the original league date. The senior side faces Comoros on 4 October, while the Under-23 team meets Gambia on 2 and 4 October. The Under-20s play the Democratic Republic of Congo on 1 and 4 October, and the Under-17s face France on 3 and 5 October. Senegal’s beach soccer team is also scheduled to play Nigeria on 3 and 4 October.

With players and clubs involved across those national teams, the FSF said the revised start should improve coordination between domestic competition and international football. The championship will now open on Saturday, 17 October, rather than Saturday, 3 October.
