Stade Rennais confirms its interest in Vitinha
Rennes is pursuing Portuguese midfielder Vitinha as it seeks more attacking support after Breel Embolo's departure.
Stade Rennais has a serious interest in Vitinha, an unusual target as the club seeks to strengthen its attack. The move follows Breel Embolo’s departure for Atlanta United and leaves Esteban Lepaul needing additional support in the forward line.
Rennes opened the new Ligue 1 season with a 2-2 draw against Paris Saint-Germain, sharing the points after coming close to winning. The result did not remove the club’s need for greater attacking depth, and Vitinha has emerged as an option despite his complicated reputation from his time in France.
Vitinha is a 26-year-old Portugal international currently listed with PSG. He plays in defensive midfield and joined the Paris club from Porto in the 2022-23 season in a €41.5 million transfer. His listed market value is €140 million. He has also been associated with heel and knock injuries.
The interest would represent an unexpected Ligue 1 development for a player whose previous French spell drew heavy criticism. Rennes must now determine whether his profile fits the support required around Lepaul, while the club’s early draw with PSG leaves the team still seeking a stronger attacking solution.
