Strasbourg revive their season by beating Lens 2-1
Gessime Yassine scored twice as Strasbourg recovered from their Marseille defeat to beat unbeaten Lens 2-1.
Strasbourg have revived their Ligue 1 campaign by overcoming Lens 2-1 at the Meinau, ending the visitors’ unbeaten start and giving Hugo Oliveira’s side a first league win of the season. The result follows a difficult opening round in which Strasbourg lost 4-0 away to Marseille.
Lens took the lead in the 38th minute when Florian Thauvin converted a penalty. Strasbourg responded early in the second half, with Gessime Yassine bringing the hosts level in the 48th minute. The forward completed his brace five minutes from full time, turning the match in Strasbourg’s favour and securing the club’s first points of the campaign.
Strasbourg’s record in the league database had placed them 18th after one match, with no points and a 0-4 goal difference. Their recent form outside that opening defeat had offered more encouragement: they beat Monaco 5-4 and Stade Brestois 29 2-1, drew 1-1 at Angers, and lost to Blackburn and Sporting CP. The victory over Lens provides a stronger response after the Marseille setback and ends a difficult start on a positive note.
Lens, the reigning Coupe de France and Trophée des champions holders and 2026 French runners-up, suffered their first defeat of the season. Strasbourg’s next league fixture is away to Estac Troyes on September 6, while Lens are due to host Lorient next weekend.
