Sunderland target Igor Paixao alongside Jack Grealish

Sunderland are pursuing Igor Paixao as well as Jack Grealish, adding the Marseille winger to their efforts to strengthen the squad. Paixao is a 26-year-old Brazilian who plays on the left wing and is currently contracted to the French club.

Marseille signed Paixao from Feyenoord for €30 million during the 2025/26 season. His previous move took him from Coritiba to Feyenoord for €4.5 million in 2022/23, following his progression from Coritiba’s under-20 side and an earlier spell with Londrina-PR. His current market value is listed at €35 million.

The move would represent a further step abroad for Paixao, who began his senior pathway in Brazil before establishing himself in Europe. His club record also includes listed calf and muscle injuries, although no current status is given. Sunderland’s interest therefore centres on a left-sided attacker already playing for Marseille and valued above the fee that took him to France.

The club is also attempting to sign Grealish, but the available details do not indicate whether either pursuit has reached an advanced stage. Paixao’s profile gives Sunderland a separate attacking option from the England international, with the Brazilian offering a specialist role on the left flank.
