Terem Moffi leaves Nice for three-year Hamburg deal

Terem Moffi’s time at Nice is over, with the Nigeria striker joining Hamburg on a permanent deal after completing his medical. The move ends a difficult relationship with the French club, where he had fallen out of favour and been left out of the squad. Hamburg now gives the 27-year-old a chance to restart his career in the Bundesliga.

Moffi has agreed to a three-year contract. Nice will receive €2.5 million, including €500,000 in bonuses, while also removing one of the highest salaries from its wage bill. His monthly pay at the Ligue 1 club was €295,000.

The transfer closes a spell that began positively but became increasingly troubled. Moffi scored 17 goals during his first season and a half on the Côte d’Azur, before injuries slowed his progress. His relationships with successive coaches and the Nice hierarchy then deteriorated, while tensions with sections of the club’s supporters further damaged his position.

Nice are 11th in Ligue 1 after taking one point from their opening match, a 0-0 draw, and have Paris FC next on August 30. Their recent five-match sequence before that fixture was three wins, one draw and one defeat, with Moffi’s departure removing a player who was no longer part of the club’s plans.
