Teungueth FC face US Ouakam in 2026-27 opener
Defending champions Teungueth FC and runners-up AJEL de Rufisque face difficult fixtures when Senegal’s Ligue 1 resumes.
Teungueth FC will start its 2026-27 Ligue 1 title defence against US Ouakam, while runners-up AJEL de Rufisque will open against Jaraaf of Dakar. The schedule gives both leading teams from last season demanding assignments in the first round of the new campaign.
Senegal’s top flight is set to resume on 3 October, alongside Ligue 2. The Senegalese Professional Football League has released the calendar for the coming season, with 16 clubs competing in Ligue 1 as they seek to take the championship from Teungueth FC.
Teungueth FC secured the 2025-26 title, making it the team to beat when the new season begins. Its first match will be against US Ouakam, which will visit the champions for the opening fixture. The pairing places the defending titleholders under an immediate test before the campaign has had time to settle.
AJEL de Rufisque finished second in the previous Ligue 1 season and will also face a prominent opponent at the start. Jaraaf of Dakar is scheduled to provide the opposition in AJEL’s first match. The opening-day programme therefore puts the champion and its closest challenger into separate high-profile fixtures, with both clubs beginning their campaigns against established Senegalese opposition.
