Thiago Scuro explains failed Balogun and Camara moves

Thiago Scuro says Monaco kept Lamine Camara after Balogun’s failed Everton move and rejects criticism of the club.

AS Monaco have kept Lamine Camara after his proposed move to Chelsea collapsed, while Folarin Balogun also remains with the club following the breakdown of his transfer to Everton. The outcome leaves Monaco with both players, despite the club’s need to sell during the summer window and its plan to retain Camara for another season.

Thiago Scuro said Everton raised concerns about Balogun’s medical examination at around 19:00. Monaco and Everton’s medical teams then discussed the issue for two to three hours before further checks found no problem at about 22:00. The clubs signed their agreement, allowing Monaco to abandon negotiations with Chelsea over Camara, who had been considered as a possible replacement for Enzo Fernandez.

Scuro said he had personally informed Camara and his agent about the Chelsea talks and had discussed the conditions for a transfer. The move ultimately was not completed. Balogun, meanwhile, was unhappy with the way Everton handled the medical concerns and the doubts raised about him.

The Monaco director said the club was pleased that Camara stayed and remained focused on maintaining its sporting level while protecting its finances. He expects to meet Balogun after the striker returns from England to discuss the next step. Monaco is also still holding talks with players in markets that remain open, while Scuro rejected claims that the club had acted unfairly and said he wanted no dispute with either Chelsea or Everton.
