Vitinha emerges as Rennes target after Marseille flop

Stade Rennais are considering Vitinha as the replacement for Breel Embolo, who has left Brittany for Atlanta United. The move would give the Portuguese player a chance to return to Ligue 1 after an unsuccessful spell with Olympique de Marseille, while Rennes seek another option for their attack.

Vitinha, 26, is Portuguese and is currently listed with Paris Saint-Germain. His career includes spells with Porto and Wolves, followed by a move from Porto to PSG. Rennes are studying his profile as they look to fill the space created by Embolo’s departure and reduce the burden on Esteban Lepaul, the club’s leading scorer last season.

The Portuguese forward arrived at Marseille with major expectations after becoming the club’s record signing, but he did not establish himself in southern France. His time there was marked by adaptation difficulties and pressure linked to the transfer, making the stint a clear disappointment. He later moved on and found a more settled period in Italy, where his performances revived interest in his return to France.

Vitinha could therefore receive an opportunity to rebuild his Ligue 1 career in Rennes. The Breton club have not completed the move, but his candidacy is being seriously examined as the search for Embolo’s successor continues.
