Atlético Madrid could offer Julián Alvarez to Barcelona

Atlético Madrid may be preparing to reverse its position on Julián Alvarez, with a January move to Barcelona now considered possible. The club resisted every attempt to take the forward away during the summer, but the tension surrounding his future could make a change necessary before the season reaches its later stages.

Alvarez, 26, joined Atlético from Manchester City for €75 million in the 2024-25 season and is valued at €120 million. His camp reportedly believes the Madrid club will allow him to leave in the winter market and could even present him to Barcelona directly. That would mark a sharp shift after Atlético repeatedly refused to open negotiations.

Barcelona pursued the Argentina international for much of the summer, while Alvarez made clear that he wanted to move to Catalonia. He was then jeered by Atlético supporters during his only La Liga appearance of the season, against Villarreal, leaving him with the task of rebuilding his relationship with the Metropolitano crowd. Barcelona remain positioned to act in January after spending only €10 million on Gabriel Jesus for the position, rather than using the full budget available.
