Bordeaux to fund salaries through Dilane Bakwa transfer

Dilane Bakwa’s move to Nottingham Forest is set to help Bordeaux meet its salary obligations.

Bordeaux are set to use the financial benefit of Dilane Bakwa’s transfer to Nottingham Forest to pay the club’s salaries. The move gives the French club an important source of funds as it manages its wage commitments, while Bakwa continues his career in England.

Bakwa joined Nottingham Forest from Strasbourg in the 2025/26 season for €35 million. Strasbourg had signed him from Bordeaux for €10 million in 2023/24. His current market value is listed at €28 million at Nottingham Forest, placing the 24-year-old among the significant recent assets connected to Bordeaux’s academy and first team.

A right winger, Bakwa holds French and Democratic Republic of Congo citizenship. He came through Bordeaux’s system, moving from the club’s under-19 side to Bordeaux B in 2019/20 before reaching the senior team in 2020/21. His progression then led to the move to Strasbourg and, two seasons later, to Forest.

Bakwa’s recorded injury history includes hamstring and knee problems. The immediate consequence for Bordeaux is financial rather than sporting: his transfer has become part of the resources available to cover salaries.
