Djibril Sidibé sent off 30 seconds into Le Mans debut
Djibril Sidibé was sent off 30 seconds into his Le Mans debut as Rennes won 3-2 with a stoppage-time penalty.
Le Mans were forced to complete their fight at Rennes with 10 men after Djibril Sidibé’s first appearance for the promoted club ended almost immediately. The dismissal weakened the visitors during the closing stages and was followed by a late defeat, despite their response after falling behind.
Sidibé entered in the 68th minute but lasted only around 30 seconds. The 2018 World Cup winner was shown a straight red card by referee M. Lissorgue after catching Esteban Lepaul with a forceful challenge. It was a disastrous start for the former Toulouse player, who arrived at Le Mans with extensive top-level experience.
Rennes took control through Lepaul in the fifth minute and Valentin Rongier in the 26th. Le Mans recovered through two goals from Louis Mafouta, scored in the 30th and 54th minutes, and stayed in contention despite Sidibé’s sending-off. Lepaul then settled the match from the penalty spot six minutes into added time, completing a 3-2 win for Rennes. Le Mans’ performance again showed their ability to trouble one of the league’s leading sides, but their effort brought no points.
