Ferran Torres backed by Spain coach after England misses

Spain coach Luis de la Fuente has defended Ferran Torres after the forward missed several chances against England, stressing that players who regularly create opportunities will also fail to convert some of them. He also praised Torres's work in Spain's attacking moves during the victory.

Spain defeated England 3-2 in the Nations League in London after taking the lead in the second minute. Torres had a goal ruled out for offside in the ninth minute, then failed to beat goalkeeper Trafford in two one-on-one situations, shooting at him in the 16th minute before sending a later effort wide across goal in the 27th.

The misses contrasted with Torres's early form at Paris Saint-Germain, where his first seven shots on target had all resulted in goals. De la Fuente nevertheless presented him as a natural finisher and referred to Hugo Sánchez, who once won the Pichichi award despite scoring all his goals with first-time finishes. The Spain coach's point was that chance creation remains central to a striker's value.

De la Fuente also highlighted Torres's contribution away from the final shot, saying his work helped create the conditions for Oyarzabal's goal. Spain therefore left London with a 3-2 win, while Torres received clear backing from the coach despite ending the match without a goal.
