FFF set to withdraw support for Gianni Infantino

The French Football Federation is set to withdraw its support for Gianni Infantino, ending its backing of the FIFA president amid disagreement over his leadership and a proposed World Cup business project. The move is expected to be confirmed on Thursday, when the FFF executive committee meets to decide its position.

FFF president Philippe Diallo has been working towards the meeting for several weeks. He has consistently opposed the proposed commercial company linked to the World Cup, which was abandoned after provoking opposition. Diallo was the first FFF figure to publicly reject the plan, and he also expressed his reservations privately within the federation.

The French federation has maintained contact with UEFA throughout the dispute and has aligned itself with the European body’s position. Diallo believes FIFA’s governance requires broader change, arguing internally for a model with greater transparency and stronger standards. The expected decision therefore goes beyond the abandoned project and reflects wider concerns about the way international football is run.

France would join Sweden, Scotland, Italy and Belgium in withdrawing support for Infantino. Those federations have already announced their decisions, leaving the FFF as the latest major European association expected to distance itself from the FIFA president. Thursday’s executive committee meeting should formalise that shift in French football’s position.
