Giovanni Castaldi leaves Ligue 1+ after one season

Giovanni Castaldi has ended his work with Ligue 1+ after one season, but will remain active across L’Équipe’s football programming. His departure followed a decision by his management linked to the partnership between L’Équipe and TF1.

Castaldi said the direction of L’Équipe told him to stop working with Ligue 1+. He later learned that the decision was connected to the agreement involving the two broadcasters. Since he was already involved with TF1+, L’Équipe director Vincent Broussard told him that appearing on TF1 was possible, but continuing on both Ligue 1+ and the other platform was not.

The journalist discussed the decision during a Wednesday appearance on TV Magazine. He said the early end to his Ligue 1+ role had disappointed him because he enjoyed working with the team there and valued the project. His comments also made clear that the separation was an organisational decision rather than a withdrawal from football media.

Castaldi joined L’Équipe in 2019 and became a familiar figure on the channel, working mainly as a columnist and sometimes as a presenter. He continues to appear on L’Équipe de Greg and now presents Téléfoot, L’After, the Sunday programme broadcast by L’Équipe as a follow-up to Téléfoot.
