Guiglo Mondialito players highlight football’s peace role
Guiglo Mondialito finalists say the tournament is helping promote peace, social cohesion and togetherness.
Players involved in the Mondialito semi-finals in Guiglo have praised the tournament for bringing communities together and promoting peace among young people and local residents. The 12th edition will now end with a final between FC Déguerpir 2 and Triangle d’Or, giving the competition’s social message a final sporting setting.
FC Déguerpir 2 secured its place in the title match by beating Nicla 1-0 on Sunday, 30 August 2026. Its captain described the qualification as the result of a collective effort and dedicated it to the residents of the Déguerpir 2 neighbourhood. Nicla’s captain accepted the result while insisting that his side had produced a strong performance, with the deciding margin coming from fine luck rather than a clear difference between the teams.
Triangle d’Or had reached the final the previous day after defeating Liverpool 1-0 at the courtyard of EPP Guiglo 2. The tournament is held under the patronage of Anne Désirée Ouloto-Lamizana, president of the Cavally Regional Council and a minister of state. Organiser Aristide Doho said the champions will receive 2.5 million CFA francs, adding significance to a final designed to encourage peace, social cohesion and closer ties among Guiglo’s communities.
