Houssem Aouar sets up Bergwijn against Al-Hazem

Houssem Aouar made an immediate impact in an unfamiliar role for Al-Ittihad, supplying the pass that brought his team level against Al-Hazem. The Algeria international started on the right side of midfield and produced a decisive contribution despite being deployed away from his usual position.

Al-Ittihad fell behind in the 18th minute, but Aouar helped restore parity 16 minutes later. Receiving the ball near the edge of the penalty area, he assessed the available space before releasing Steven Bergwijn. The Dutch forward then finished with his right foot to make it 1-1.

Bergwijn went on to score again from the penalty spot before the interval, giving Al-Ittihad further reward after recovering from the early setback. Aouar’s assist was the key action in the equaliser and underlined his value while operating in a different position.

The contribution also followed Aouar’s recent appeal for patience from supporters. He had explained that he had not played in his natural position since the start of the season and had been moved around to cover for absences. The midfielder acknowledged that adjusting to several roles was difficult, while accepting those responsibilities as one of the team’s senior players. His display against Al-Hazem offered a response on the pitch.
