Ibrahima Wade highlights national backing for Dakar 2026
The Dakar 2026 organising chief says broad national support is strengthening preparations for Senegal’s Youth Olympics.
Senegal’s preparations for the Dakar 2026 Youth Olympic Games are receiving support from public bodies, businesses, sports organisations and civil society, according to organising committee coordinator Ibrahima Wade. He said the breadth of that involvement showed a national effort behind the event, which will make Senegal the first African country to host the Youth Olympics.
The latest contribution comes from the African Refining Company (SAR), which has signed a partnership with the organising committee. SAR will provide 50 million CFA francs and supply fuel for the Games, scheduled in Dakar from October 31 to November 13.
Wade said the state, technical and financial partners, local authorities, companies, sports federations and civil society each have a role in delivering the event. Preparatory work is continuing at the Olympic Village, while the Infrastructure Ministry is accelerating road projects linked to the Games.
The organisers and SAR also want the event to produce a lasting benefit for Senegalese youth. Wade said that legacy would include the facilities built for the Games and the skills developed through their organisation, with young people expected to benefit from both.
