Julián Alvarez faces growing unease inside Atlético

Julián Alvarez’s strained Atlético situation is reportedly unsettling teammates after a hostile return at home.

Julián Alvarez’s difficult situation at Atlético de Madrid is beginning to create unease within the squad. His teammates and Diego Simeone continue to support him publicly, but his visible frustration is said to be troubling players privately. They fear the dispute surrounding the Argentina international could damage the team, particularly in home matches.

Atlético drew 2-2 with Villarreal on Sunday as Alvarez returned to the Metropolitano after starting on the bench. Supporters booed him when the teams were announced and again when he entered during the second half. The atmosphere around the forward became a major focus of the match, with some fans appearing more concerned with his situation than backing the team.

At the final whistle, Atlético’s players went towards the stands, while Alvarez went straight back to the dressing room. The move was directed by the club in an effort to shield him from further hostility. The 26-year-old centre-forward joined Atlético from Manchester City for €75 million in the 2024-25 season and is valued at €120m. Atlético remain unwilling to sell him to Barcelona, although a strong offer from Arsenal could alter that position.
