Julián Álvarez remains absent from Atlético training
Julián Álvarez has missed a third straight Atlético session, deepening uncertainty over his future at the club.
Julián Álvarez’s continued absence has increased uncertainty around both his availability for Atlético de Madrid and his future in the Spanish capital. The Argentina international has not returned to group training, and the club says he still feels unwell and is experiencing discomfort. His prolonged absence could also prevent him from travelling to Sevilla.
Álvarez missed Friday’s session for the third consecutive day. His first absence came after Atlético’s 2-2 draw with Villarreal in the opening round of La Liga. That match was followed by whistles from supporters, while the forward went straight to the dressing room at the final whistle rather than joining his teammates in greeting the crowd.
Atlético chief executive Miguel Ángel Gil Marín wants the 26-year-old to remain but has acknowledged that the club may need to consider an alternative if Álvarez no longer feels his situation meets his expectations. Arsenal remains a possible destination, while Atlético has ruled out a move to Barcelona. The Madrid club rejected Barcelona’s offer of €100 million payable in six instalments and referred the Catalan side to Álvarez’s €500 million release clause. Atlético is now waiting for the striker to clarify his position.
