Jürgen Klopp claims first Germany win in Nations League
Jürgen Klopp secured his first Germany victory as coach as the Mannschaft beat Serbia and Portugal won without Ronaldo.
Jürgen Klopp has ended his wait for a first victory as Germany coach, with the Mannschaft beating Serbia 2-0 at the Allianz Arena in Munich. The success came in his third match in charge and gives his tenure a positive result in the Nations League after two games without a win.
Germany took the lead in the 39th minute when Tom Bischof reacted quickest after Serbia failed to clear the ball. Florian Wirtz then doubled the advantage in the 61st minute. The Liverpool midfielder received a pass from Mittelstädt, moved beyond a Serbian defender and completed the scoring. Germany’s control of the match was reflected in the final margin, as Serbia failed to find a reply.
Elsewhere in Group A1, Greece surrendered a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 with the Netherlands. Ioannidis opened the scoring in the 23rd minute and Masouras struck just before half-time, but the Dutch recovered after the interval through Van Dijk and Tijjani Reijnders, who equalised late.
Portugal also won, defeating Denmark 3-2 without Cristiano Ronaldo. Wales beat Norway 2-1 to hand the visitors a second successive defeat, while Ireland and Austria finished level at 2-2. The results gave Germany the key outcome of the round: a first win under Klopp, while Norway’s latest loss extended its poor run.
