Marketa Vondrousova appeals four-year doping ban

Marketa Vondrousova has taken her four-year suspension to the Court of Arbitration for Sport, opening a new legal stage in a case that could keep the Czech player away from competition until 21 June 2030. The appeal was confirmed by the sports tribunal on Monday, while no hearing date has been set.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency imposed the sanction at the end of June after Vondrousova refused an unannounced anti-doping test at her home on the evening of 3 December 2025. The requested sample was treated under the same rules used for a positive test. Vondrousova disputes the circumstances of the visit, saying the late-night approach caused stress and raising mental-health and personal-safety concerns. She also said the tester did not clearly identify herself or follow the required procedure.

The 2023 Wimbledon champion has not played on the WTA Tour since January. Her last Grand Slam appearance came at the 2025 US Open, where she reached the quarter-finals before withdrawing. The former world number six is therefore already absent from the circuit, but the suspension extends the uncertainty over her return and future eligibility.

The CAS hearing is expected in the coming months and would normally be held behind closed doors unless Vondrousova requests a public session. A ruling could still take several months after the hearing.
