Paris Saint-Germain draw at Frankfurt before home decider

Paris Saint-Germain will need to complete their Champions League qualification on home soil after being held by Eintracht Frankfurt in the first leg. The 1-1 draw leaves the tie undecided, with Paulo César’s side required to win the return at Campus PSG in seven days to reach the league phase. A draw would not be enough for PSG to join OL Lyonnes and Paris FC, who qualified automatically after finishing first and second in France last season.

Frankfurt took the lead in the fourth minute after Larissa Mühlhaus punished a poor Paris clearance inside the penalty area. PSG recovered quickly, drawing level three minutes later through Naomie Feller. The 24-year-old France international, who arrived from Real Madrid during the summer, scored with the visitors’ first chance of the match.

The Paris side finished the opening half strongly and controlled its closing quarter-hour, but failed to turn that pressure into a second goal. Frankfurt then carried the greater attacking threat after the interval and had several opportunities to move back in front. PSG’s defence held firm, however, and the German team could not find a winner. The outcome gives Paris the advantage of playing the decisive leg at home, but their route into the league phase still depends on a victory in the return match.
