Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang scores again for La Coruna

Aubameyang scored for a second straight match as La Coruna drew at Malaga and began the season with two points.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has continued to provide goals for Deportivo La Coruna, but his latest effort again ended without a victory for the promoted club. La Coruna drew away to Malaga in a meeting between two teams that came up together, leaving Deportivo with two points from its first two matches and still searching for its opening win.

The forward opened the scoring in the 21st minute, giving La Coruna the advantage at Malaga. It was Aubameyang’s second goal in as many matches. He had also found the net in the first round, when Deportivo began its campaign with a 1-1 draw against Elche. His immediate scoring run has therefore accompanied two consecutive draws rather than a winning start.

Malaga levelled in the 34th minute through Chupe, who converted a penalty. The equaliser brought the Andalusian side back into the match before the break, and neither team managed to regain the lead during the remainder of the contest. The points were shared in a fixture involving two newly promoted teams.

For La Coruna, the early record is unbeaten but winless: two matches, two draws and two points. The result also means that the side has conceded an equaliser after taking the lead in each of its opening games. Aubameyang’s goals have supplied both of Deportivo’s early advantages, yet the team has not been able to turn either one into three points. The draw at Malaga follows the same 1-1 outcome recorded against Elche, giving La Coruna an identical scoreline in its first two fixtures.
