Premier League clubs lead four €100m-plus transfers

Four completed moves above €100 million have underlined how quickly record fees are becoming normal in the European transfer market. English clubs account for most of the spending, while Real Madrid have also joined the latest group of buyers with a major deal for a young player.

Morgan Rogers has moved from Aston Villa to Chelsea for €138 million, while Elliot Anderson’s transfer from Crystal Palace to Manchester City is valued at €365 million. Sandro Tonali has left Newcastle for Tottenham in a €108 million deal. The fourth transfer is Yan Diomande’s move from RB Leipzig to Real Madrid for €125 million.

The figures extend a trend that accelerated after Paris Saint-Germain paid €222 million for Neymar and €180 million for Kylian Mbappe in 2017. Those deals remain the two highest fees in football history, but nine-figure transfers are now far less exceptional. The Premier League’s financial strength has pushed the wider market towards increasingly high valuations.

French clubs have also benefited from the demand for emerging talent. Lille’s €100 million sale of Ayyoub Bouaddi to Manchester City is the biggest transfer in Ligue 1 history. RB Leipzig have followed a similar development model with Diomande, while PSG’s reported interest in Bradley Barcola reflects the market value attached to established players with major European experience.
