RC Lens pursue Nathan Zézé before transfer window closes
RC Lens want Nathan Zézé to reinforce central defence, but Neom’s conditions and rival interest complicate the move.
RC Lens are pursuing Nathan Zézé as they look to strengthen their central defence before the summer transfer window closes. The move would give the club another option in the position as Lens build on a strong start to the Ligue 1 season and continue their recruitment plans.
Lens are second in Ligue 1 after one match, with three points from a 5-2 goal record. Their recent results also include victories against Boulogne, Nice and Lyon, a draw with Charleroi and a defeat against Paris Saint-Germain. The next league test comes on August 29, when Lens travel to face Strasbourg.
Zézé, 21, joined Neom from Nantes last summer for €20 million. The defender is a France Under-21 international and is coming off a highly successful season, factors that have helped place him on Lens’ shortlist as the club seeks defensive reinforcement.
The proposed move depends partly on Neom’s transfer plans. The Saudi club must sell a player before it can recruit, creating an additional condition around any possible deal for Zézé. Lens also face competition from Bologna and Eintracht Frankfurt, who are pursuing the same defender. With the closing of the window approaching, the French club’s interest has not yet translated into a completed transfer.
