Teungueth FC begins 2026 CAF Champions League campaign
Senegal champions Teungueth FC travel to Canchungo on Sept. 5 seeking an early advantage in the CAF Champions League.
Teungueth FC’s departure for Guinea-Bissau puts the Senegalese champions into their 2026 CAF Champions League campaign, with the first-leg objective of returning from FC Canchungo with a result that strengthens their position before the return match in Rufisque. The fixture is the opening step in the club’s attempt to make another significant continental run.
Teungueth arrive after finishing first in Senegal’s Ligue 1 with 54 points from 30 matches. Their record was 13 wins, 15 draws and two defeats, with 21 goals scored and six conceded. Their latest five league matches brought three wins and two draws: victories over Guediawaye FC, Stade de Mbour and Wally Daan, plus goalless draws against DSC and AJEL. This gives them a consistent platform, particularly defensively, for the African assignment.
The match against Canchungo is scheduled for Sept. 5, 2026, in the first preliminary round. Coach Malick Daf has included local-market signings Patrick Basse, Ibrahima Aidara and Mbaye Ndiaye in the travelling group. Teungueth’s stated aim is to take a positive result away, then approach the home leg with an advantage.
The Rufisque club has a continental benchmark to match. In 2020-21, it reached the Champions League group stage, the first Senegalese club to achieve that milestone. Five years later, Teungueth is seeking another campaign that raises its standing among Africa’s leading representatives.
