Ugo Mola addresses Galthié succession uncertainty
Toulouse manager Ugo Mola says he has not been contacted about replacing France coach Fabien Galthié.
Ugo Mola says he has not been contacted about succeeding Fabien Galthié as France coach, leaving the post beyond the 2027 World Cup open rather than placing him among confirmed candidates. Mola also stressed that the decision belongs to the French Rugby Federation and that he remains focused on his current responsibilities at Toulouse.
Galthié took charge of France in 2019 and has led the team to three Six Nations titles, including one Grand Slam. His contract runs through the 2027 World Cup in Australia, after which the federation plans to assess the coaching position. Galthié has not indicated that he will step aside or rule himself out of seeking a new mandate.
Mola, Toulouse’s manager since 2015, avoided declaring whether the national role interests him. He said that openly expressing interest could suggest the job had already been offered, while dismissing the possibility could be interpreted as arrogance. He also underlined that coaching France would be a different profession from his club role. For now, Mola says he is fully committed to Toulouse and has never been more convinced that France can win the 2027 World Cup.
