Harry Kane wins Germany's 2026 player of year award

Harry Kane becomes the first English winner of Germany's player of the year award, beating Michael Olise in the vote.

Harry Kane has become the first Englishman to win Germany’s player of the year award, adding national recognition to his outstanding 2025/26 campaign with Bayern Munich. Michael Olise finished second for the second successive year.

Kane received 272 votes from Germany’s sports journalists, while Olise collected 203. The poll involved 695 members and was open to Bundesliga players of any nationality, as well as German players competing abroad. Florian Wirtz, the 2025 winner, had received 191 votes.

The Bayern striker’s selection followed a season in which he scored 73 goals at the age of 32. He helped Bayern win the German league and cup, reached the Champions League semi-finals and finished third at the World Cup with England. Those achievements made 2026 the most productive season of his career.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany was also recognised, winning the German coach of the year award for the first time since taking charge in 2024. Kane’s award adds to the individual honours surrounding a season that has placed him among the leading names in the Ballon d’Or discussion, with the ceremony scheduled for late October in London.
