Karim Adeyemi shines on Barcelona debut in 5-0 win

Barcelona made a powerful start to their defence of the Spanish league title, defeating Elche 5-0 away on Sunday. The result also launched the club’s bid for a third consecutive championship with a convincing performance, while Karim Adeyemi marked his first appearance for Barcelona with a goal.

Raphinha put Barcelona ahead from the penalty spot in the 14th minute after being brought down by Elche defender Victor Chust. Adeyemi then doubled the advantage in first-half stoppage time, escaping the offside trap after receiving a pass from Raphinha before finishing from the left side.

Barcelona extended their lead after the break through another Raphinha goal in the 67th minute. Four minutes later, the Brazilian supplied Fermin Lopez, who scored into an unguarded net. Fermin completed the scoring in the 79th minute with a powerful effort from the edge of the penalty area.

The only concern for Barcelona was Gavi’s early departure before half-time. The midfielder was seen limping and reported pain in his right knee, but the club had not issued an update on his condition. Barcelona therefore leave the opening fixture with three points and a strong attacking display, alongside uncertainty over one of their key midfielders.
