Nick Kyrgios cleared to return after one-month ban

Nick Kyrgios can return after a one-month cocaine suspension, with his Mallorca points and prize money annulled.

Nick Kyrgios is eligible to resume his tennis career after the International Tennis Integrity Agency reduced his provisional suspension to one month. The sanction is due to end on September 3, 2026, provided the Australian completes an approved treatment programme. No comeback tournament has yet been confirmed.

Kyrgios was provisionally suspended on August 4 after a sample collected on June 22, around the Mallorca grass-court tournament, returned a positive cocaine test. He lost in the first round there. The ITIA determined that the substance had been used privately, outside competition, and that the low concentration did not indicate an intention to gain a sporting advantage. An independent expert from a World Anti-Doping Agency-accredited laboratory judged his explanation consistent with the test result.

The standard suspension for the violation was three months, but it was reduced because Kyrgios entered the required treatment programme. His €6,570 in Mallorca prize money and the ranking points from that event, listed as zero, have been cancelled. The former world No. 13 has played only four singles matches this year, winning one, and six doubles matches, winning two. After the case became public, he apologized and said he would step away from social media and public life for 28 days while focusing on his recovery.
